There will be a setting where you can change it from the headset to the external speakers. With Windows 10, right click on the speaker icon on the task bar and choose open sound settings.

Steam VR will automaticly install when you first install a VR game, but you can find it manually by looking in the Library / Tools menu of the steam client.

Still, if you've already got one, it saves a lot of cash. It's quite comfortable and easier to wear with glasses than the rift of vive.
